Wait it out?

Had I not left when I did, instead of taking four hours to get home, it would have been about EIGHT -- my boss left an hour after me and in three hours only went 1/2 mile until he ran out of gas (luckily, this was right at the.T station, so he took a train and had his wife come get him).

The signs warning of an evening Nor-Easter on the highway up here didn't help. Maybe they should have reminded people to buy some GAS.

I'm not afraid of the snow -- I'm afraid of the other people, who cannot drive in the snow. And now I'm also afraid of them turning my already annoying one or two hour commute into a four to five hour epic ordeal every time snowflakes hit the freaking ground.

As far as the plows, up here the problem was four inches of snow fell in 2 hours. By the time the plows were ready to roll, all the streets were completely clogged. Had the snow not fallen so fast, the roads would not have been as bad, and the traffic, while it would still have been unpleasant, would not have been nearly what we ended up with.

P.S. I want one of those snow rakes. I don't think I've ever seen one, although I'm sure they have them around here. I use this old scrubby broom since I'm short.

Amateurs! Just kidding. My city really knows how to "do" snow. Of course we have a LOT of practice. They generally don't start plowing until the roads are pretty deep. They also generally cancel school the night before, so the kids aren't stuck on buses. And well, they pretty much cancel everything. Even the libraries close. Plus the local media drives us crazy with alerts and closings. Maybe even too much so. Plus everyone has 4 wheel drive and drives like maniacs. Except for me, of course. I drive 4 mph or take the bus. Glad you got home safely.

I saw all that mess in the newspapers! What the heck?!?! I couldn't believe that kids were stuck on the school buses for so long, and then the schools didn't know where in the city their buses were! I would really have freaked out, personally.

I didn't think anything of the snowstorm down here in Newport. I don't know about Newport itself, but my town was plowed just fine. In fact, here in military houses, we had three plows come down our street at the same time at least once an hour. I know we somehow got priority, and the apartment complex that shares some of our land was barely plowed until the weekend.

We were just up in Providence yesterday, and downtown SUCKS. We took some wacked out way to get from Providence Place to the highway, and it was a mess. Right at rush hour too, but what made it so bad was the snow. Streets are still barely plowed. It makes NO SENSE, especially as Newport is all plowed out.

Someone, somewhere, definitely dropped the ball in Providence.
